Episode 175 - Jon Reviews Ralph Breaks the Internet

220px-Ralph_Breaks_the_Internet_(2018_film_poster).png

Happy New Year everyone!

Jon’s back of course with a movie review.

He just saw ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ with his friend Daniel.

I’m typing this before he goes, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say he liked it.

We talked a bit about other stuff too, like what we’ve done over the holidays, that kind of thing.

Oh he also talked, of course, about the trailers he saw, can’t forget that.

We hope you all like the episode.

Episode 173 - Jon Reviews Little Italy

220px-Little_Italy_film.jpg

Jon went to see another movie.

It is a movie I didn't even know existed.  He may be beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel. Then again, maybe it's good.

Anyway, the movie is 'Little Italy' which I've not heard of, a romcom sorta deal.

Let's find out what the boy thinks.

Oh it turns out to be a Canadian movie, who knew?

Episode 172 - Jon Reviews Alpha

220px-Alpha_(film).jpg

Boy, Jon has been busy.

Thats two reviews this week.

This instalment is his review of Alpha.  I had not heard of this movie, and after having read the synopsis on wikipedia, I kinda want to see it.

I am interested in Jonno's thoughts though.

Jon really liked this one.  He says it would be a good family movie, though, there is some violence.

Enjoy.

Episode 171 - Jon Reviews Crazy Rich Asians

Unknown-1.jpeg

We're back from our camping trip, and now Jon is back to the movies.

Today it's 'Crazy Rich Asians'.  It is getting great reviews, so I imagine Jon will like it.

(You can probably tell from the tense in that sentence that I'm writing this before he goes)

Ooh he really liked it, says this one should get Oscar consideration.

We also talked a bit about our recent coming trip..

Episode 170 - Jon Reviews Hotel Transylvania 3

Hotel-Transylvania-3-poster-600x845.png

It's a busy week for Jon, a busy week of movie going and podcasting.

Today he saw Hotel Transylvania 3.

It seems to have quite a cast, including Adam Sandler, and other SNL alums.

Jon really liked it, and gave it 10 out of 10, as is his custom.  His friend Daniel gave it 7.

Jon burps in this episode, right in your ears, plus, he rubs his razor tumble on the mic.  Ahh the joys of living with Jon.

Jon says the movie would be good as family entertainment, and that it is not boring like, say, the Emoji Movie....

Episode 169 - Jon Reviews Christopher Robin

Unknown.jpeg

So, Jonno just got back from a movie.  Christopher Robin.  Here are his thoughts, in convenient podcast form.

I've neglected to ask him for his ratings lately, so I won't forget this time.

So, it turns out that Jon liked it a lot.  Both he and his friend Daniel give it 10/10.

Of course Jon talked about the various previews he say, and told us more about his movie ideas.

Episode 167 - Jon Reviews Ant Man and the Wasp

Unknown.jpeg

While I was away at MMPR (The Marshall McLuhan Podcaster Roundtables) Jon went to the movies.  Another trip with his friend Daniel.  This time he saw another super hero movie, Ant Man and the Wasp.

I'm typing this before we record, but, my guess is that he really liked it.

I bet we also talk about the movie trailers.

I wonder what Jon will give it out of 5?

Episode 164 - Jon Reviews Deadpool 2

242900R1.jpg

So, Jon went to see Deadpool 2.  Here's his review.  Remember, Jonathan Files reviews are full of spoilers.

Jon also told me about the previews he saw, and there were five of them.  He thinks the new Mission Impossible movie looks good.

Oh he liked Deadpool 2.

He's been putting his movie ideas on his new blog.

Plus, I bought Jon a new bike, and he likes it a lot, though he has fallen once.  Damned city still hasn't cleaned up all of the sand they put out in the winter.

Episode 163 - Jon Reviews Peter Rabbit

Peter-rabbit-teaser.jpg

This March Break has been great for Jon's podcasting career.

Today he went to see Peter Rabbit.  I had no idea it was some sort of irreverent comedy. Having watched the trailer I think it actually might be funny.  I'll wait for Netflix though...

Jon seems to have liked it which is a good thing.

The movie had a song in it that Jon has been playing for at least a year.  Turns out when you listen to the whole song, and not just one bit of it, it is not that bad a song.

Jon has changed over to a rating scale out of 10 with surprising results.

We got vaguely serious for a second, Jon prefers 'person with autism' to 'autistic'.  Cool.

Episode 161 - Jon Reviews Game Night

Game_Night_(film).png

So we're in Sudbury as Isabelle and some students and faculty from the French department at the university are here for a play.  Jon and I came along.

We're at the Radisson and it is attached to a (somewhat lame) mall.

Well it does have a theatre, so while Isabelle is at the Francoplay, Jon and I went to see Game Night.  As with all Jonathan Files reviews, this thing is full of spoilers.

It was a lot of fun.  It was funny, had some pretty good action and, well, you know what Jonno gave it out of five...

Episode 157 - Jon Reviews Dunkirk

Wow, we haven't put any out in so long and now two in the span of a week.

Both Jon and I saw the previews for Dunkirk last year and we looked at each other and said 'let's see that when it comes out'.  So, we did.

It was, frankly, a great movie.  We both liked it a lot.  I didn't record our scores but we would both give this one five out of five.

Jon's also been working at the digital creator space in the public library, making animation, which is cool.

Episode 154 - Jon Reviews Rogue One

Jon and I haven't seen a movie in quite a while, and, frankly, there's a new Star Wars movie out, so, off we went!

It was either Rogue One or Assassin's Creed, which Jon informs me is supposed to be terrible.

This is a Jonathan Files review, it will be full of spoilers, so just please keep that in mind.

Here's a spoiler, there are space ships and what have you.

Enjoy, and Happy New Year from Jon and me.

Episode 147 - Jon Reviews Sully

You can't go wrong with Tom Hanks and plane crashes

You can't go wrong with Tom Hanks and plane crashes

Hi everyone.

It has been quite a long time since Jon and have done one of these.  Things have been very busy for the both of us, Jon has started his second year of high school, and I'm back to teaching from my sabbatical.

Anyway, we're back with a review of 'Sully' which we just saw.  IT'S A PLANE CRASH MOVIE OF COURSE HE LOVED IT.  I was quite enamoured of it as well, though I don't think they treated the NTSB very fairly in the movie.

They have these reserved seats at the theatre, Jon and I didn't get them as it didn't seem necessary.

Hopefully we'll do a few more of these in the near future.

Episode 145 - Jon Reviews Star Trek Beyond

As with all Jonathan Files movie reviews, this is rife with spoilers.  So, SPOILER ALERT.

Yup, after having no episodes all summer, Jon's done two in two days.

So we just saw Star Trek Beyond.

Jon loved it.

I loved it.

Isabelle loved it.

It was really good!

So you know, we had to record a little something.  Anyway, enjoy.

Episode 142 - Jon Reviews Money Monster

Today Jon and I went to see Money Monster, the George Clooney/Julia Roberts vehicle.  It looks interesting (I'm writing this before we go) and has gotten fair to middling reviews, with a 55 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here's a guess, Jon will love it, and I will think it was ok.

Hopefully I can get Jon to talk a bit about the movie, the cast and such as well as his recent interest in dubstep and electronic music, which, while I find odd, I think it is a good thing.

We're dedicating this one to our buddy JC.

Enjoy.

Episode 140 - Jon Reviews Batman v Superman

Jon went to see Batman v Superman today.  This is really aimed right at his demographic when you think about it, superheroes, explosions etc.

He really enjoyed it and he gave it his typical rating.

We did this one not on my phone but 'in the studio'.  Partially because I like typing 'in the studio' and partially because we don't have long walks to school any more.  We might once the weather warms up.

We hope you like this one as much as we liked doing it.

Episode 137 - Jon Reviews Hail Caesar!

Isabelle, Jon and I went to see hail Caesar tonight.

So, of course, Jon did a review on the way home in the car.

I'm writing this in the afternoon, and we have not seen it yet, and I am wondering, five out of five again?  Or will Jon not be enamoured of the Coen brothers?

It turns out that Isabelle and I liked it a lot, indeed I think we were the only people in the theatre who picked up on the homages to 1940s movies.  Jon of course loved it.

Episode 135 - Jon Reviews Ride Along 2

We're back, Jon's back, with another movie review.

I didn't see this one, Jon went to see this one with his friend, who is also named Jon.

I'm writing this blog post a couple of hours before Jonathan gets home from school, but I'm going to guess 5/5 and that we will hear about the trailers.

Oh, we did this one in the podcast studio, outside in the winter is rough on my phone, and of course Jon doesn't have a long walk any more as he just comes from the bus stop.  Plus, I like saying 'in the studio'.

Episode 134 - Jon Reviews Star Wars The Force Awakens

THIS IS FULL OF SPOILERS.

OK, we saw Star Wars the Force Awakens, Jon loved it, I gave it 3.5/5.

Plus, I almost lost my wedding ring during the movie and Jon almost lost his gloves.

Oh, it also snowed a lot here.

Again, there are spoilers, listen at your own risk.

Episode 133 - Jon Reviews The Night Before

Jon is back to reviewing movies.

On our way to the bus stop Jon wanted to review the movie he saw last night, The Night Before.  It is a Seth Rogen movie, so I am sure it had its laughs.  Jon loved it.  Isabelle, who went with Jon, was not as big on it.

Of course Jon mentioned the trailers as well.

We hope you like it.
